songbirds takes it to the top – again
SONGBIRDS in the Forest collected a cache of awards
including Restaurant of the Year for the second year running at the
recent Gold Coast Restaurant and Caterers’ Awards for Excellence.
The Mount Tamborine restaurant won the major title plus the Best
Informal Restaurant, Best Wine List and Best Modern Australian
Awards.
Songbirds’ owner Bonnie Rodwell says she is over the moon. “It
is such an honour to win an award in this highly competitive market
but to win twice in two years leaves me lost for words. Thanks to
chef de cuisine Philip Edwards, a great team in the kitchen and in
customer service Songbirds has achieved another major success. My
thanks goes to all the people – and that means people who dine at
Songbirds as well as those who work with me – for their support and
belief in what we are trying to achieve,” Bonnie says.
Songbirds in the Forest opened in November 2004 to rave reviews.
Just seven months later Songbirds was voted 2005 Restaurant of the
Year, Best Restaurant and Best Modern Australian Cuisine. Songbirds
was awarded a Gold Coast Restaurant and Caterers Best Wine List
Award in 2005 and a Gold Coast Business Excellence Award for
Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation in May 2006.
The hotly-contested Gold Coast Restaurant and Caterer's Awards
announced in July 2006 saw Songbirds create a record by again
winning the Restaurant of the Year Award as well as the Best
Informal Restaurant, Best Modern Australian Cuisine and another
Best Wine List Award.
Songbirds' captivating location on a 54-acre rainforest property
at Mount Tamborine, sensational modern Australian cuisine, fine
wine and five star service has attracted a steady following of
local diners. The second year of operation sees Songbirds
attracting customers from around Australia and overseas.
Bonnie says they are looking forward to an exciting future.
"Songbirds is now open every day for lunch. At present dinner is
served on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings but we will add to
this later this year. Songbirds is still developing, we plan to
give diners even more options with luxurious tastes, produce picked
from our newly planted organic gardens and some of the best wines
in the world,” she says.
The unique location and design has created media attention from
around the world. The restaurant has become recognised as the place
for corporate events with international business leaders choosing
to launch everything from prestige cars to leading wine labels at
Songbirds.
Songbirds in the Forest restaurant is the focal point of
Songbirds Rainforest Retreat, a luxurious hideaway where a maximum
of 12 guests can stay in superbly appointed private villas for two.
